Sheena She: Who is Bully Mouth?

Eggz: Bully Mouth is Krillz, Cap, Eggz and Espee

Sheena She: Who chose the name Bully Mouth? What’s the story behind that?

Eggz: The name bully mouth was actually suggested by Espee, we laughed about when he came up with it , but it stuck cause it was like a joke to us but then we thought about it an said word.

Espee: Bully Mouth was basically pulled out of hat with a bunch of other names. Bully pretty much stayed because of the tone it set for the type of music.

Sheena She: Where did Deal The Villian come from?

Deal The Villian: When I 1st started rhyming I went by the name Darksied. After taking a hiatus,I felt I was in a different place & wanted to adopt a new moniker. I’ve felt I’ve always had a knack for confronting, evaluating, & productively “dealing” with issues & situations more than most people, so I felt that fit best, as well as having a ring to it. I didn’t add The Villain till later, attributed to my habit for saying & doing what I feel “needs” to be done verses keeping still & quiet. Suffice to say, it does cause issues from time to time, thus making me the bad guy. One of the 1st artists I started working with by the name of Omin Child noticed this & liked the idea & started calling me The Villain. I wanted to shy away from it because I’m such a fan of DOOM & didn’t want to be viewed as a biter, but in time I felt it was fitting & I made it my own.

Sheena She: Tommy you’ve been working a lot with Daniel Joseph, Deal the Villian, St. Joe Louis – what are some of the things that keep you motivated to constantly keep you working on music?

Tommy Chase: I dont know uhhhhhhhhhhh nothing really its what I like doing and I really dont do anything else but music and it’s fun …sometimes!!!!!!!! it’s just my mind is always working and running so I guess thats what it is if you can filter all the extra bullshit out!! lol

Sheena She: Deal how would you describe your style?

Deal The Villian: Random. lol It’s actually word association segueing into the next thing that relates in some way or another to the previous item & topic of the entire song or verse. I never go with the first thing that pops in my head. I’ll usually go with like the 3rd or 4th. In all, I just try to do my best to be descriptive & paint a picture. I attempt to use references I feel will never be dated from pop culture, & cult genres, i.e. movies, tv, sports, other music, cartoons, toys, comics, the internet, books, world history, religion, EVERYTHING. Same goes for my production.

Sheena She: How is Texas different from New Jersey and vice versa?

Tommy Chase: Um, I would say support in TEXAS artist support each other it doesnt matter what level of fame you are a, where as in JERSEY it’s more of the “crabs in a bucket” mentality I would say that’s one of the major differences but other than that it really isn’t a big difference ( the part of TEXAS that I am from is ljust like JERSEY as far as the surroundings)

Sheena She: Any new things happening with Bully Mouth? Any new projects?

Eggz: New things for bully…hmm I would say things are picking up, we got some new music on the way for the people…the Raw Eggs and Spinach Lp is hitting the last few steps before we release it so expect it soon. Also expect some songs to be released for download soon enough.

Sheena She: The last album Back To School had some awesome tracks. Which would you say are your favorites?

Eggz: It has to be Definition Of A Bully and BoomBox, both for the same reason…They tell a story of where to bullies been, Def of bully is us explaining what Bully Mouth is to an interviewer and dragging them to Lens studio but never tell them the answerr…BoomBox talks about our show in Michigan..boombox!

Espee: My personal favorite is “No Autographs” because of the concept behind it and how it was made. The concept was basically us saying to the people who were hating that – Yeah, we’re signed to one of your idols label, but we’re still who we are. When you’re young and on the way up people look at you as if you owe them something sometimes when all that we were doing was making music. It wasn’t like we were going on the road in a $400,000 tour bus. Matty V (our manager) fronted like 6,000 for us to go on the road for a month (which was supposed to be two). Makin the song was dope cause krillin had a homeboy come through and play some guitar on it and it really added some goodness to the record. Gave it a real grimey Jersey sound.

Sheena She: How long have you been producing as well emcee-ing?

Deal The Villain: Wow. I’ve been at this off & on for a while.I first started “beatmaking” back in ‘98 and rhyming immediately after. Now, the reason I say “Beat making” is, there’s a big difference between that & a producer. A producer takes every precaution in the creation of something & taking it from idea to valid complete product. It involves handling & overseeing artists, musicians, mixing, & all elements it takes to make a song & ensure all that can be done,is,& to the best of everyone’s ability. Where a beatmaker only provides the musical function of the process. Same goes for the difference between rapper & MC. I hold the term MC in high esteem. I’ve felt I was an above average rapper rather than MC till I would say maybe 2/3 yrs ago. It wasn’t until then that I felt I was a “master” of my craft.

Sheena She: Who are your favorites right now?

Tommy Chase: Not that im not taking this serious but huh????????????????????????????????????????????

Sheena She: How’d you guys feel when Alien Workshop used “Boom Box?”

Eggz: Souuuuped up, for someone to feel the song the way we feel it always is good. the dvd was fresh and to have boombax on it made it better.

Espee: The Alien workshop deal was cool. It kind of lifted spirits, but then again it kind of sucked because we weren’t able to enjoy the success of the initial response to song boom Box. It dissapeared off of iTunes and No One can explain why. So right Now we have Brainstorm Music Group release it in hopes that people will come back and buy it. Overall it was a cool experience to have our record on a platorm like that. It shows the potential of the group.

Sheena She: Any solo projects coming up?

Deal The Villain: I’m constantly working on projects, either it be producing or rhyming. On the production side of things, I’m doing an entire project w/ Myk Dyaleks of BrokN.English named Cerulean, which should be completed this spring. Also, I’m working on a companion mixtape for one of my favorite TV shows, The Boondocks w/ a great MC out of Denver named WhyGee set to drop before the show’s 3rd season this spring on rockthedub.com. Not least, I’m heading producing on Elite Assembly’s debut ablum, as well as constantly placing tracks with various artists. I have several projects in line on the rhyming side of things. First is The Hi-Fi Prelude Mixtape which should drop late March, early April. It features members of Elite Assembly, as well as other producers & aritists I work with, & respect. Next up is my second offical project on RTD Records “A Day In The Heist” produce soley by up & coming producer The Jake. It’s an ep about wanting more out of life & the ups & downs of the caper to pull it off. Then, I’m excited to be working with Philly PROducer & remix kang Small Professor, currently who’s doing the remix to This Ain’t (Love) off EPic, & on a tentative project which I’m playing close to the vest. All that & my 2 passion projects KingVillain w/ producer King-I-Divine & DealDoom which kinda started this whole solo DTV career I have.

Tommy Chase: Yes I have a project coming out but it’s kinda being delayed due to the fact that I am already dedicated to other projects that I am working on (St.Joe Louis,E.A. Project), but Im trying to make the best of it so far all I have is a name for it (A Car Crash Inspiration) I know what I want it to sound like but thats about all I can tell you about that. I also have 3 mixtapes out THE ODDISEE 1 and 2 AND THE 100 YD DASH.

Sheena She: Deal, has anyone influenced you along the way?

Deal The Villain: I’m a student of hip-hop culture, so my influences run deep. From the days of Run-DMC & Kurtis Blow to now. As far as key influences, on the production side I can name Marley Marl, Prince Paul, Erick Sermon, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, J Dilla, The RZA, No I.D., Hi-Tek, Q-Tip, & Madlib. As for rapping, due to my rich hip-hop fan history it’s all had a profound effect on me.

Sheena She: What are your plans for the year 2010?

Tommy Chase: I guess going to warp tour and putting out this project and trying to survive other than that nothing!!!!!!! Sheena you ninja!!!!

Espee: 2010 is going to be interesting. There’s a lot of music to be made, and there’s a lot of “starting over” to do. It’s been a while since we went on the road and it’s been a while since we recorded a song as a whole group. Personally I’m Excited and nervous at the same time only because I don’t know what to expect from the fans. Musically I know we can bang out mad songs, but it’s just the feeling of will the response be the same.
